Stakeholder Consultation | Please forward to Forest Harvesters /Contractors | June 25, 2026 7:30 pm
Hi All,
On behalf of the Association of Registered Professional Foresters of New Brunswick and the New Brunswick Forest Technicians Association, we are hosting an in-depth session for stakeholder consultation in the forest harvesting/contractor population in New Brunswick.
This will be an opportunity to ask questions and have discussions specific to your community of practice. Registration is not necessary.
The meeting will provide an update on the work of the joint committee toward regulating the practice of professional forestry (RTP) in New Brunswick.
PLEASE FORWARD to your forest harvesting contractors distribution list as soon as possible. So, we can engage with as many people as possible.
The purpose of this meeting is to:
Since January 2025 the committee has made several updates and refinements to our proposal, including:
• Changes to the draft definition of “professional forestry.”
• A requirement under RTP that all forestry practitioners be licensed, including “registered” members.
• Providing for a “Restricted License.” These restricted license holders will be able to use the designation Affiliated Forestry Practitioner (AFP).
• Development of the draft document “Why RTP is a Public Interest Priority”.
• Update to the Stakeholder Presentation and supporting materials (Key Points, etc.) to convey more clearly “Why RTP should be supported.”
We encourage all people in the forest harvesting/contractor community to attend and provide feedback on the stakeholder session regarding regulating the Practice of Professional Forestry in New Brunswick. Anyone is welcome to attend. Please pass this message and meeting invite onto those in the forest/harvesting community.
Thank you for your continued engagement and collaboration on this important initiative.

J.D. Irving has advised white pine sawlog deliveries to Doaktown have been heavier than expected. As a result, they have not been able to use up their older logs.
They are asking all producers to hold off on cutting any white pine sawlogs until further notice. They expect this to be 4 to 5 weeks.

A special congratulations goes to Wayne Walker, recipient of the 2026 YSC Woodlot Owner of the Year Award — a well-deserved recognition of dedication and stewardship within our forestry community.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of our members who attended, our guest speakers for sharing their expertise, and the generous individuals and organizations who contributed door prizes to help make the evening even more memorable.
At YSC, we remain committed to supporting private woodlot owners and strengthening the future of sustainable forestry in New Brunswick.
Thank you for being part of another successful AGM — and thank you for continuing to help us prove we are more than just marketing.
The paving at JDI's South Bay Chip Plant, mentioned in the post below, will be completed later today. The plant will reopen at 18:00 tonight for deliveries. Thank you for your patience!

Wood Producers,
See the attached file for a copy of the New Brunswick Forests - Best Management Practices Manual.
Our Contracts for roundwood include the statement under the “Special Conditions” section that the Producer will “utilize best forestry management practices”. Signing the Contract is acceptance that you will adhere to these Best Management Practices.
You may have been provided a physical copy of the handbook when you received your initial Contract.
I would ask that you review the manual again as a refresher.
Providing this training material to our Wood Producers, and having Producers follow these best practices is important in maintaining our SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) certification for our Mills.
As part of the audit process each year a few private woodlots that we bought from are audited (on the ground) in relation to these best practices. It is also possible that the auditor (KPMG) could contact you to ask about “best practices” or this manual. Please be familiar with the manual.
If you have misplaced your copy and would like a hard copy of the manual to have on hand, please let me know. I will send one along to you.
Do not hesitate to call if you have any questions.
Thanks.
