YSC's woodlot owner of the year, Allan Robertson, was featured in an article by the CBC at the end of last week. The woodlot tour held on Saturday, where we presented Allan with his award. Congratulations, once again, Allan! We thank everyone who joined us for the tour!
Jolly Farmer has advised they have taken over 80% of the Biomass they required this season. While they originally expected to be buying until at least the end of the year, producers can now expect Jolly Farmer to shut down wood purchasing within the next few weeks.
Please be advised that we will not be able to take deliveries of Softwood Pulpwood at Sussex this weekend.
We must stop deliveries between 6 pm on Friday (27th) TO 6 pm on Sunday (29th).
Our inventory is growing, and we need to take the weekend to get the oldest wood moved so we do not bury it with fresh wood.
Sorry for the inconvenience. Your patience is appreciated.
This coming Saturday (Sept. 28) is your opportunity to tour the woodlot of YSC's 2024 Woodlot Owner of the Year, Allan Robertson!
Details, as well as the registration link, are below! We look forward to seeing you there!
Join us to tour the woodlot of Allan Robertson, YSC’s 2024 Woodlot Owner of the Year. The walk will take place on Saturday, September 28th from 1-4 pm (rain date Sunday, September 29th, 1-4pm).
The woodlot is located at 21 Harrison Ave in Stanley, NB. Carpooling from Fredericton can be arranged if requested, and overflow parking will be at the Stanley School. Please register for the walk at this link.
It would be hard to find another woodlot anywhere in the province where the owner has worked so hard, so diligently, and so consistently to transition the forest from a climate vulnerable, short-lived balsam fir forest to one that is positioned to embrace the future. Through a double-barreled process of harvesting the at-risk fir every year, including two planted and one natural Christmas tree plantation, and planting a mix of species including red and sugar maple, yellow birch, white pine, and red spruce, Allan has succeeded in creating a woodlot that is relatively fire and wind resistant as well as climate resilient. For his hard work, Allan received the honour of Woodlot Owner of the Year in 2024 from the YSC Forest Products Marketing Board.
Woodland Pulp is accepting Softwood Pulp from September 16-19 ONLY at the mill in Maine. Price is CAD $53/ton (CAD $51.83/ton after levy.)
